The following is the BSA Weekly Caregiver Newsletter for week of 1/12-1/15:

A Message from the Head of School

Dear BSA Community,

We are coming to the end of Semester 1 and I wanted to share some updates with you. We have evaluated our structures and academic supports for students and have plans to add deeper supports for the new term. We will discuss these in Thursday’s caregiver association meeting but I am also providing a summary below. Please note: even though NY State has cancelled the Regents exams this January, BSA will also be issuing Mock Regents or Regents level Exams per grade during the week formally known as “regents week.”

Additionally BSA is an NWEA MAP school. The NEWA MAP is a national Math and ELA assessment that measures academic growth. Very shortly we will be assigning your child the first of 3 NWEA exams to be administered this year. This is a mandatory requirement for every BSA student. For information on the NWEA please click here: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/

Family Toolkit – NWEA

You see a bright future for your child. So do we. It’s why our assessments measure what students know and are ready to learn—to help teachers plan and differentiate with each unique learner in mind.

Starting in Term 2 which begins on February 1st, we are adding the following enhancements to our school to support your child’s academic growth.

  • Friday Afternoon Additional Academic Tutoring
  • Saturday Morning School Study Hall
  • After School Study Hall
  • Student Personalized schedules
  • Parent Technology Workshops on Tuesdays
  • IEP Dedicated Tutor
  • New African American Experience Class

Respectfully Yours,

Ms. Silberman

Announcement #1:                   Enter for Your Chance to Win an Amazon Gift card: January 2021 BSA Caregiver Survey from Panorama Education

BSA is now using Panorama Education to gather important student and caregiver opinions on how we operate remotely. Last week, we sent out our monthly caregiver survey using Panorama Education. To encourage participation and show our appreciation for your voice, all caregivers who complete the survey each month will have their name placed in a drawing for a chance to win a $50 Amazon.com gift card. At least 15% of caregivers must participate for there to be a drawing. The deadline to complete the current survey is January 27th, 2021 and the drawing for the gift card will be held on February 3rd. We already had one winner for our January drawing, complete the survey and you could be next!

Please search your email inbox and Spam folders for an email from Panorama Education. BSA utilizes Panorama Education due to its highly secure network and analysis capabilities. Each caregiver has received a personalized link to the survey which cannot be shared with multiple caregivers. We encourage all caregivers to search their inboxes for this survey and mark Panorama Education as a “Known Sender” with the email provider. Thank you for your continued dedication to BSA!
