The following is the BSA Weekly Caregiver Newsletter for week of 10/13-10/16:

Announcement #1:                                BSA celebrates Latina/Latinx History Month!

Greetings, BSA community! We want to introduce two events in honor of Latina/Latinx/Latino History Month.

First, please join us on Thursday, October 22nd, at 5:00 PM for a showcase event to honor this month. The event will involve music, dance, and conversation and celebrates Latina/Latinx/Latino culture at Broome Street Academy. We hope you will register to join us and be a part of this incredible virtual event.

Next, we are launching a reading challenge that encourages parents, students, and teachers at BSA to read books by Latina/Latinx/Latino authors. We are calling it Drop Everything and Read Across the Diaspora. It begins on Monday, October 12th; below are a few book suggestions. We also hope that you will share your book selections as well.

Announcement #2:                                Mental Health Survey

If I have yet to meet you, my name is Meredith Soffrin and I am the Director of Social Work at BSA. As you know, BSA has four social workers who are a robust team of mental health professionals. We are here for your learner should they need to speak to someone, please reach out to me or any other staff member. Everyone in the community will know to put you in touch with me right away.

Aside from providing counseling services, we also make sure to check in on the student body three times a year using a Wellness Survey. This survey will be launched via BSA email this week and asks students to rate their emotional state, share a bit about their supports systems, and ask for help if needed. Please encourage your BSA student to participate in this measure. It is confidential and goes directly to me. If you need anything at all, please email me at msoffrin@broomestreetacademy.org

Announcement #3:                                Become a Member of The Door

Please take a few minutes to fill out this short form if you haven’t already: https://sforce.co/2XfmkL6.
