The following is the BSA weekly caregiver newsletter for week of 5/25-5/29:

Announcement #1:                                            Graduation

Hello Class of 2020,

I wanted to update you and let you know that your Graduation Day will still be June 29th. It will be a virtual ceremony that will be live streamed so all your loved ones can watch. Broome Street Academy and The Door are partnering and leading this endeavor. We plan to produce a unique and inspiring commencement for such a unique and inspiring class. I know you have many questions, and though you are entering your final marking period at BSA, it’s not time to jump ahead to the ending just yet. This is a time to celebrate you and all you have accomplished these past four years. There will be some surprises.

I will tell you this: You will need your caps and gowns and you will need to be wearing them on graduation day. Nothing is more important to me and to your teachers than making sure that you are all together as the Class of 2020 on June 29th. Because you cannot all be together physically, you will be together virtually. We are working with our technical production team to make sure you will be appearing live on screen together in some fashion during the ceremony. You will be experiencing and watching the commencement as a class. Each and every one of you will be recognized. There will be traditional graduation elements and non-traditional elements because, after all, we are Broome Street Academy. We will need to be resilient but resilience is at Broome Street Academy’s core.  (GO WARRIORS!) The symbolism and pomp and circumstance behind this most special day will not be lost.

Over the next few days, we will be reaching out to you for your input on certain elements of graduation, and shortly after that you will receive a virtual invitation with instructions on how to register your guests for the event and on how to join the ceremony.

On behalf of the entire Broome Street Academy community we appreciate the grace, patience and understanding and hard work that each of you has demonstrated during these extraordinary times.

With love and admiration,

Ms. Silberman

Announcement#2:         Broome Street Academy Board Scholarship Opportunity for the Class of 2020!

We are excited to announce that the Broome Street Academy Board of Trustees has launched a scholarship contest for our graduates in honor of your accomplishments, goals, and resilience.  You are invited to self-nominate and apply for this opportunity to win a $500 scholarship. There will be two winners chosen and announced at graduation.

To apply, please submit a well-crafted five paragraph essay that:

– Explores one of BSA’s pride pillars and exemplifies how you demonstrate that pillar
– Describes your post-graduation plans (college, career, etc)
– Explains what you would do with the scholarship if you received this award

Email your submissions to contactBSA@broomestreetacademy.org

Good luck with your submissions!
