Incoming Chief Executive Officer Brings Extensive Leadership and Strategic Planning Experience After Successfully Leading Non-Profit GMHC

NEW YORK, NY – The Door and Broome Street Academy are excited to welcome Kelsey Louie as their new CEO, effective June 28th. Louie is a public health leader with more than 20 years of experience supporting underserved youth, families, and communities of color and joins the executive team after seven years as CEO of GMHC, a New York City-based non-profit committed to ending the AIDS epidemic and uplifting the lives of all affected.

Under Louie’s leadership, GMHC (formerly Gay Men’s Health Crisis) developed and implemented a strategic plan that established a one-stop shop programmatic platform for people living with HIV/AIDS and created a unique service delivery model that emphasizes continuous quality improvements to build stronger programs, create efficiencies, and meet the emerging needs of the community.

“I’m honored to join The Door and Broome Street Academy, two highly-regarded organizations that are committed to championing underserved populations in New York City,” said Louie. “As a person of color and member of the LGBTQ community who benefited from loving and caring adults when I was young, The Door and Broome Street Academy’s mission is one that is not only deeply personal to me, but also one to which I have dedicated most of my career. It’s an honor to serve their staff and the community in this critical work and I look forward to building off their previous successes.”

“Kelsey’s vast experience supporting and serving New Yorkers in need, including those living with HIV/AIDS and members of the LGBTQ community, makes him a perfect fit for this role,” said Marc DeBevoise, President of The Door’s Board of Directors. “The COVID-19 pandemic has made The Door’s and Broome Street Academy’s work more important than ever, and I am confident that the organizations will continue to thrive under Kelsey’s leadership.”

A native New Yorker and the proud son of immigrant parents, Louie succeeds former CEO and current advisor Eric Weingartner, who successfully led The Door and Broome Street Academy for the past five years and substantially grew a variety of programs serving disconnected youth across New York City.

“Kelsey will be a fantastic leader of The Door and Broome Street Academy’s talented staff and management team,” said Weingartner. “I’ve known Kelsey for many years and have great admiration for his dedication to service and his accomplishments. I look forward to working with Kelsey in an advisory role and watching his exceptional team lead The Door and Broome Street Academy in inspiring ways.”

“We are excited to welcome Kelsey to Broome Street Academy,” said David Zurndorfer, President of Broome Street Academy’s Board of Directors. “We look forward to strengthening Broome Street Academy and The Door’s successful partnership under Kelsey’s guidance in the years to come.”
